Agricultural value chain
Working alongside small-scale farmers and farming co-operatives, together with all other actors in the value chain, TechnoServe ensures that small-scale farming enterprises are linked to secure markets and are given access to the resources needed to produce and supply to these markets and thereby become a viable and sustainable part of the agriculture value chain.
TechnoServe engages and builds support from local communities and existing support structures while providing skills training and mentoring, giving farmers the capacity to farm efficiently and deliver high quality produce.
We facilitate markets such that farmers have an existing agreement with either a fresh produce market or a pack house/retailer and we support farmers in the application of accessing finance through guidance and mentoring in business plan preparation.
TechnoServe South Africa currently has eight mentoring programmes in Limpopo and Mpumalanga, mostly fruit and vegetable farms, with the potential to employ up to 1 000 people and make a significant contribution to economic development in the region.
We are also about to engage in KwaZulu-Natal where 500 small-scale farmers will be developed and linked to viable markets over the next three years.
